A week in works.
Friday, March 20th, 2009Y Helo thar!
There was no update through this week, mostly because we were really busy with shaping up our trailer for GDC. We hope to get the trailer ready for public release later next week, as we still need approval from Nintendo for it.
We have taken the feedback from the community to heart, and we’re reshaping the game to make it more unique and have more distinct feeling. Although it’s pretty awesome to be compared to the best, we never aimed to jump on the copycat bandwagon.
Attached to this post you will find mock-ups of the new level and setting. We have it pretty much wrapped up to run on our Wii Test Kit, so you’ll get the chance to check out actual screenshots later next week.
And don’t forget, next week you’ll be able to check out the game in full motion, so you can finally see what the gameplay is really like! :)
Have a great weekend!
The Story of Furry Legends
Monday, March 9th, 2009Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to this week’s presentation!
This week, we explore the story of Furry Legends. But beware, as not all in the world is cute and fuzzy. Somewhere, hidden away, an evil lurks! Read, and watch the story unfold before your very own eyes. And now: On with the show!
Our internal version has a few pages, which is way too much for a casual reader to digest, so I’ve stitched together a “Too Long; Didn’t Read” version. Hopefully all key elements are still there.
In addition, you will find some concept arts of enemies and environments attached to this post. I’ll keep posting more concepts and descriptions in the future, so you can get a glimpse how we work on the game, and so on. Most of the concepts attached here are already a few months old, so you might see some thing done differently in the final version. However, in my experience, such early artworks and sketches are very interesting, so I have decided to share some of works with the community :-)
Here goes!
A long time ago, in a galaxy place very far away, there was a lonely world, orbitted by two suns. One day, a mystical Creator has stumbled upon this very lonely piece of rock. He decided to breathe some life into this world. A few hundred years passed, and the world has filled with grass, mountains, seas, and all kinds of wildlife, but the Creator was not happy. He wanted some inteligent species to inhabit the world, and cherish his creation. In his wisdom, he followed a simple rule - the simpliest things are often the best. Thus he created the simpliest shape - a perfect square, then a cube. And thus the Alpha Squarie was created.
A truly magical creature it was. On one side, a hard block of stone, on the other one, a living creature, able to think, express feelings and talk. In addition, blessed by the Creator, the Alpha Squarie was able to breathe life into stone, to create more Squaries, and thus a society.
The creature was happy to be alive, and the Creator was happy that his creation is alive. However, not all things went right. Even though the creature wanted to show its affection to the Creator, each time it hurt him with its sharp corners and edges, even though it wanted to roam the lands, its shape didn’t allow it to cross mountains and waters. The creature was not perfect, and the Creator saw it. Even quick fixes like additional fur didn’t help. Dissapointed, the Creator departed to a remote part of the world to meditate where he went wrong. The creature was abandoned, left to itself.
After several long years, the Creator finally figured it out! A sphere! A perfect shape, soft and fuzzy, with no corners, able to traverse any terrain. And thus became the Alpha Furball. This creature exceeded all of Creator’s expectations. Different from the Squarie, the Furball could split itself to create new life. Initially it split into several different Furballs, each with its own traits.
Meanwhile the Squarie watched the Creator and the Furballs enjoy each other’s company and slowly taking over the planet. The planet that was his. Alpha Squarie felt lonely, betrayed and abandoned. He chose the life in exile, and retreated to the northermost part of the world.
With years, the anger and sorrow grew in him, he shed all of his fur off, exposing his sharp edges and corners. He became bitter, jealous and angry. After all, square is the perfect shape, how dare these Furballs enjoy the land that was meant to be his?! He couldn’t stand this. He built forges and created new Squaries, he started to sculpt the land, and soon the northern end was all covered in sharp, pointy angles. Soon, the Furballs would taste the vengeance of a hundred years in exile..
Aaand that’s it! Below you will find a couple of concept arts of the world and some of the enemies. We’ll be back next week with more info on the world itself!
